Immunity, a biocontrol method against fanleaf virus

Keywords : Court noué (fanleaf), GFLV, hypo-aggressiveness, immunity, biocontrol

Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV) is one of the viruses responsible for court-noué disease. This disease, the cause of a growing dieback phenomenon, does not have any effective control measure. New court-noué control strategies are being researched, using biotechnological, genetic or biological techniques.

The VACCIVINE project aims to evaluate immunisation using hypo-aggressive strains of GFLV as a biocontrol strategy against this viral dieback phenomenon. Based on a field testing network in which agronomic, serological and molecular data are collected, le VACCIVINE project aims to:

  • shed light on the different protection levels observed in inoculated vines,
  • study its mechanism,
  • identify new strains of GLFV that confer immunity
  • to establish proof of the concept in order to carry out greenhouse and then field trials at the end of the project.

Partners

Led by Olivier Lemaire of the INRA UMR Vine Health and Wine Quality (SVQV) in Colmar, the participants in the programme include the Comité Champagne, the IFV, the Vaucluse, Yonne and Grand Est Chambers of Agriculture, as well as the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology (IBMP) in Strasbourg.

Actions

  • Action 1 : Serological and molecular analyses
  • Action 2 : Agronomic monitoring of vines
  • Action 3 : Identification of vines displaying mixed phenotypes
  • Action 4 : Genetic study of viral populations by NGS
  • Action 5 : Study of the protection mechanism
  • Action 6 : Greenhouse evaluation of the protection level of inoculated vines

Programme

The project runs from January 2018 to December 2020.
